Quotes

Death ” First the colours.
Then the human.
That’s usually how I see things.
Or at least, how I try.”

Death “I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that is only the A’s.
Just don’t ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me”

Death “The only sound I’ll hear after that will be my own breathing, and the sound of the smell, of my footsteps.”

Death “First up is something white. Of the blinding kind…. It felt like the whole world was dressed in snow.”

Death “I studied the blinding, white-snow sky who stood at the window of the moving train… – I became interested. In the girl. Curiosity got the better of me,…” in this line and throughout the book the author is describing death’s actions and intentions to actions and intentions that human’s have. The author is personifying death.

Death “I clearly remeber my breath was loud that day. I’m surprised the guards didn’t notice me as I walked by.” Death either knows that no one can see him and is stating this to demonstrate that he was breathing very loudly, or he doesn’t know that no one can see him and just thinks that he is able to slip away into the background with no knowing he was ever there.

Death
“Her mouth jittered
Her cold arms were folded.
Tears were frozen on the book thief’s face.”

  1. These are good quotes – try to write a note about why you chose them as well, what you think they add to the meaning of the text – or the features of language or other literary elements that they represent.
